Founded in 2003, KCJO is one of the nation’s preeminent big bands, performing classic and original repertoire in a variety of settings. KCJO puts forth engaging themed shows ranging from Duke Ellington’s early works to brand-new reimaginations of pop music that celebrate the past and embrace the future. The orchestra was modeled after the Columbus (Ohio) Jazz Orchestra which, at the time, had been performing for more than 30 years. KCJO performs regularly at well-known Kansas City venues and participates in festivals, educational programs and USO-style dance events across the region. In 2013, Clint Ashlock was named artistic director and conductor. He holds master’s degrees in jazz and music composition and is pursuing a doctorate in trumpet performance at the University of Kansas. KCJO supports music education and student scholarships and frequently hosts master classes conducted by their outstanding visiting artists.
Tickets are also available for the pre-show dinner at 6:30pm.
Supported in part by Peter Goulet.
